Uniforms are perfect for the kind of role-playing that is characteristic of fetish sex.  As one says in the army, one "salutes the uniform and not the man!"  Uniforms often symbolize authority evoking fantasies of Dominance and submission and military uniforms particularly signify that the wearer is endowed with state-sanctioned power and are strong assertions of masculine power. 

When a woman dresses in the military garb does she masquerade as a Phallic Woman?  Does she want the power that a patriarchal society has attributed to the phallus and is symbolized by phallic clothing?  Versace described the modern woman as "ruling men with an iron hand." 

Military uniforms are the most popular as they signfy hierarchy and command.  Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived at the Wiesbaden Army Airfield on February 23, 2005 dressed for power wearing all black.  Rice was wearing a black skirt that hit just above the knee, and it was topped with a black coat that fell to mid-calf. The coat, was emblazoned with seven gold buttons running down the front and its band collar, called to mind a Marine's dress uniform.   

As Rice walked out to greet the troops, the coat blew open in a rather swashbuckling way to reveal the top of a pair of knee-high boots. The boots had a high, slender heel that elongated the leg and gave her a look of sexual excitement.  Her boots also had that phallic signifier which likely appealed to "soldier lovers." 

Rice's uniform of a coat and boots exuded power, strength and sexuality.  A most volatile combination, and when looking at the image of Rice in Wiesbaden, the mind searches for ways to put it all into context.  It turns to fiction, to caricature.  To shadowy daydreams.  Dominatrix!  It is as though sex and power can only co-exist in a fantasy.  When a woman combines them in the real world, stubborn stereotypes begin to have Female Power devolving into a form that becomes rampant and purely sexual.

Was she laughing at the men who were lost in her strong and sexy look and their submissive male fantasies and were helplessly turned on?  Ms. Rice certainly walks to the beat of a different drummer. She show support of the current white male supremist patriarchal culture. She definitely does not share the agenda of the Democratic Party. This suggests that She is a free thinker. Rice also doesn't go along with the vast majority of Black voters (about 90% of whom vote for Democrats). She holds a very Conservative view which creates a vast thought chasm among those who have a more liberal view in the black community. However, such diversity is healthy and is the goal of the Female-Led Movement.

Ms. Rice is a major role model for many young Women and she is a role model for many teenage Black Girls. They see Her success which fosters a belief within them that they also can be anything they choose in today's America. She is also a significant symbol for many white males, too. It is a good thing for white males to contemplate that there will be a day in the not too distant future when they will be reporting to a Superior Black Woman. It is happening more and more where white males are now encountering a Boss who is Black and Female.

As our nation transitions away from white male hegemony, Ms. Rice has become a pivotal Female figure. Her story will become the foundation for a future society that will be built upon Female Leadership.
